Adoption of the euro in Croatia

Croatia will join the Eurozone on January 1, 2023, and from that date the euro will be used. The fixed conversion coefficient between the euro and the Croatian kuna is 7.53450 kunas per 1 euro. Other steps are associated with this change:

  • Funds deposited in kuna bank accounts will be exchanged for euros free of charge as of January 1, 2023. Kuna accounts are automatically converted to euro accounts.
  • Banks, Financijna agencija (Fina) and Hrvatska pošta will exchange kuna cash for euros free of charge until 31/12/2023, but only up to 100 banknotes and 100 coins per transaction. The Croatian National Bank will carry out this exchange without limiting the number of banknotes and coins until 31/12/2025.

Croatia has also entered the Schengen area from January 1, 2023, thanks to which European citizens will travel to the popular holiday destination without border controls.

ATTENTION! From July 2022, changes to the Road Safety Act apply in Croatia

The changes mainly concern cyclists and drivers of electric scooters, electric mopeds and in-line skates and bring, among other things, some restrictions on the operation of these means of transport in tourist zones and the obligations of drivers when operating them - for example, the obligation to wear protective helmets when driving on public roads. You can download the details from the Downloads section.

Cres - autumn paintings

Have you ever visited Cres at the beginning of November? No? We did and it was worth it. Beautiful weather, air temperature 23°C, water temperature 21°C, no wind, morning fog, morning and evening walks, afternoon swimming. And of course great gastronomy. With a minimum of tourists. No comment needed.

Discover new interesting places

Lošinj Island - Mrtvaška Bay

The southern part of the Lošinj Island is practically uninhabited, overgrown with subtropical vegetation and with many beautiful small nooks on the coast (www.croatia.cz/kvaros/ losinos.html). But there is one catch: these places can only be reached by boat or on foot from the central road leading from the town of Mali Lošinj to Mrtvaška Bay.

From the KONZUM supermarket, drive southeast along a decent, paved road to Mrtvaška Bay. The trip is slightly adventurous, mostly along the ridge of the mountains and offers beautiful views on both sides of the island. The whole area is interwoven with a network of marked hiking trails, you can get a better idea on the tourist map on mapy.cz. Remember to bring good shoes, drinks and snacks with you.

From Mrtvaška Bay you can take a taxi boat to the Ilovik Island (contact at www.ilovik.hr). You can leave your car in the car park by the bay. Ilovik boasts mainly two sandy beaches - Paržine and Parknu - all within walking distance of the town of Ilovik.

On the way back, don't forget to stop at the lookout tower (44.51320N, 14.49462E), from which there is a beautiful view of the town of Veli Lošinj and the island of Pag.

City of Cres - The path of centuries-old olive groves to the church of     Sveti Salvadur

From the town of Cres you can go north on an interesting hiking trail leading through the old lead groves to the churches of St. Salvadur (3.5 km / 1.5 hours) and then Sv. Blaž (+ 4 km / 2 hours). The marked nature trail will acquaint you not only with the history of olive growing and olive oil production. On the way back, go down from the church of St. Salvadur to the sea and return along the coast back to the city. Good shoes needed!

The town of Cres - on foot or by bike to Valun

For more able hikers or cyclists, there is a trip to Valun, a small resort in the bay south of Cres. Of course you can go there by car or boat taxi, but the views from the trail are irreplaceable.

The trail leads around the marina and climbs upwards, from where it goes practically along the contour line to Valun, where it descends sharply to the port (15 km / 4.5 hours). For those who do not aim to visit Valun, we recommend going back about halfway. You will not lose the views. The mountain bike ride there will take you about 1.5 hours. Intended only for more able riders.
